On the night of Wednesday in Dallas, the Mavericks delivered a devasting blow to the visiting Utah Jazz with a resounding final score of 147-97. Luka Doncic, just days after embracing fatherhood for the first time, put on a remarkable performance, achieving the first first first-half triple-double of his career. He showcased his prowess with 29 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists in the first half alone.
This feat marked a new chapter in NBA history, as it was the first time a player achieved a 25-point, first-half triple-double. Doncic concluded the game with 40 points, 11 assists, and 10 rebounds, securing his 60th career triple-double and claiming the ninth position on the all-time list, surpassing the legendary Larry Bird. The game also marked the Mavericks’ highest-scoring performance of the season, falling only two points short of their all-time highest-scoring game in regulation. Undoubtedly, it was a monumental night from a Dallas perspective.
Yet, on the flip side, the night was far from monumental for the Utah Jazz. Head coach Will Hardy minced no words in his evaluation of the team’s performance. “That was an absolutely horrendous basketball performance,” voiced Hardy after the game. He continued with an unapologetically candid assessment, describing the basketball game as a “masterpiece of dogshit.”
